Data revisions

Minor changes are made in the data when needed in response to continuing quality checks and audits. These changes are usually a result of additional data or information becoming available. Major revisions to the database are noted here.

2004

January 2004. Some supermarkets encountered labor stoppages in November, which impacted sales volume. In addition, several lamb cuts have been added to the searchable database. They are lamb chops, lamb roasts, leg of lamb, lamb leg, lamb shoulder, and lamb loin.

2003

July 2003. As a result of a comprehensive item classification audit, significant price revisions (greater than 5 cents) were made for pork chops (center cut, bone in), beef sirloin steaks (boneless, Choice), and Beef ribeye steaks (all categories). Nearly all the revisions involved switching items from bone in to boneless or vice versa.

February 2003. Changes made in the January 2001 through December 2003 data to include boneless, skinless chicken breasts. Pork (All other Pork) price for November 2002 was revised down 7 cents from November 2002. Minor changes were made in a few other items.

January 2003. Changes were made in the January 2001 through November 2002 data to include imported lamb, domestic lamb, and all lamb. Bacon prices are up 15 cents due to a review of bacon advertisements, and the amount of bacon (not pre-packaged) sold on feature is reduced. Minor changes were made in a few other items.

2002

December 2002. Changes were made in the January 2001 through October 2002 data to place individual store items in more appropriate meat-cut categories, especially with respect to bone-in and boneless cuts, choice and select beef, and other pork products. Most changes were minor. Larger changes were made for pork (all other pork), beef Porterhouse steak - Choice, and pork chops (boneless, center cut bone in, and total).

November 2002. Data for January 2001 through September 2002 were reviewed using several editing routines. Data for chicken leg quarters are now available for the reporting period. As a result of the review, some items were incorrectly classified. The classification problems were: some Select beef items were coded as Choice, some boneless items were coded as bone in, and some smoked meats were coded as fresh. Most of the revisions were small (less than 5 cents per pound), mostly for beef items. However, larger revisions were made for beef ribeye steaks, chicken breasts (bone in), chicken thighs, and pork chops.
